Witnessing the emotional impact that art can have on individuals brings me so much joy.
Especially when seeing them connect with not only the artwork on the walls but also the space I have created, designed to be inclusive and open, with the artists vulnerabilities on the walls inviting visitors to feel safe.
Being a Gallery Owner
My journey into this role as a gallery owner and advocate for mental health through art has been deeply personal. As an artist myself, struggling with my mental health, I have experienced firsthand the benefits of creative expression in managing my own mental health challenges, thus opening a whole new level of communication.
My struggles with depression and anxiety are what inspired me to create a space where others could also find solace and healing through art.
Turning a Shipping Contained into A Gallery in the Bush
Nestled along Cradle Mountain Road near Moina, our gallery, housed in a repurposed shipping container offers a serene and picturesque backdrop and environment to feel safe.
We showcase emotionally driven artwork exhibitions and offer a curated selection of handmade gifts by local Tasmanian artisans in our gallery shop.
The unique setup of our gallery, adds to the character of the space, creating a welcoming and intimate atmosphere for visitors.
Our mission is to foster a safe space, promoting mental well-being, and support our local community through these visual art practices.

One thing I wish I knew before starting this business though; is the importance of self-care and setting boundaries.
Running a gallery can be emotionally and physically demanding, and it’s crucial to prioritise my own well-being to continue supporting others effectively.

A Gallery Creating Connection Through Creativity
What I enjoy most about our customers and artists is their enthusiasm and willingness to engage with our gallery’s mission.
Whether it’s sharing their personal stories or expressing their emotions through art, the artists who have their works in our gift shop put their entire self into their works and in turn create a connection, this openness and creativity inspires me every day.
Working with Emotion as a Medium
As an artist myself, with predominantly my works on the walls of Blue Tree Gallery, I primarily work with emotion as a medium and sew my own canvases from old clothing to embody an identity.
A Personal Journey with Mental Health
My creative practice is deeply influenced by my personal journey with mental health, and I strive to create artworks that reflect the complexities of human emotions and experiences.
A Creative Arts Journey
Recently I have completed my Honours in Creative arts focussing on the placement and representation of mental illness within specific art practices, which highlighted the need for these representations and advocacy of mental illness within my own art practice.
A Passionate Advocate for Mental Health Wellbeing
In addition to being a gallery owner, I am also a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and destigmatisation.
Through Blue Tree Gallery, I hope to contribute to a more compassionate and inclusive society by promoting dialogue and understanding around mental health issues through sharing my story through my art practice.

And the Art Trails Tasmania blog is a key part of making this happen, telling the stories of members. It’s about what they have happening with workshops and classes, exhibitions, open studio trails, where to find their outlets, markets, fairs and festivals so you can shop their creations as well as their art and craft retreats.
Also being shared are the supporters of our artists, the galleries, shops, cafes, art societies and groups, places to stay and artist in residencies.
