Workshop Immersion

In addition to nature and photo enthusiasts, the Instruction provided supports a large range of creative mediums like sketch artists, painters, sculptors and many others seeking quality reference images to works with.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll be encouraged to ask questions, experiment with settings and learn through doing.

Working with your own camera, conversations unfold gradually with the aim of helping you to make sense of core photography principles and how they apply specifically to photographing birds.

You’ll be guided through photography concepts including camera navigation, shooting modes and key exposure settings, all explained clearly and in context.

As the session progresses, you’ll explore how you can apply these foundations to common bird photography situations such as perched birds, birds in flight and changing light conditions. The aim is to help you move toward photographing birds with greater intention and confidence. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have built your knowledge and gained hands-on experience, ready to continue practising and developing your skills in the field.

Workshop Supplies

Participants need to bring their own camera to this workshop.

Ideally, you’ll have a lens capable of at least 200mm focal length or more, though this is not essential to learn the foundations of bird photography.

Workshop notes and a Guide to Bird Photography booklet will be provided for you to take home.

Full Day Workshop

This full-day experiential workshop is presented in a light-hearted, easy-learning way and offers plenty of opportunities to ask questions and experiment with what you’re learning as you go.

The day unfolds gradually, building your confidence and understanding through our focus on foundational photography principles and how they apply to wildlife photography.

We begin in the morning by covering the core foundations of photography, including key terminology, camera navigation, shooting modes, the exposure triangle (ISO, aperture and shutter speed), focus modes, depth of field, white balance and shooting modes.

As the day progresses, you’ll be guided through experimenting with techniques and settings that are particularly helpful when photographing wildlife, allowing you to adapt your approach as situations change.

Throughout the day, we’ll spend time wandering around the sanctuary so you can put what you’re learning into practice, experiment in real situations and gain a clearer understanding of what works, what doesn’t and why.

By the end of the day, you’ll have gained valuable insights through hands-on experience and a solid foundation in wildlife photography, ready to continue practising and building your skills with confidence.
