Get Along to the Artist Hubs of the Huon Valley Studio Art Trail
More artists – more venues! In 2026 the Huon Valley Studio Art Trail includes a more diverse collection of artists and makers than ever before.
In addition to the 40+ artists opening their home studios, newly introduced this year will be ‘Artist Hubs’ where artists gather in central locations across the valley.
Opening the Hubs has expanded the range of artists involved in the trail by bringing creatives who are normally hidden away in their secret home studios out into these iconic locations for everyone to enjoy.
Meet the Artists
In each Hub you’ll meet 3 to 6 artists and makers in a single location, a great help to plan key stops on your trail. See their tools and techniques, watch them create, and discover the inspiration driving each artist.
Artist Hubs will showcase everything from painting, pastels, watercolours and drawings, through to ceramics, jewellery, metal craft, instrument making, furniture, contemporary wood carving, sculpture, photography, textiles and more.
The event runs from the 23rd to 25th October, 10am to 4pm daily, across the Huon Valley and Far South.
Artist Hub at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed
Immerse yourself in the authentic essence of Tasmania’s apple history by visiting the Artist Hub at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed. Nestled at the start of the Art Trial in the bountiful Huon Valley, their restaurant invites you to discover the freshest flavours the Huon Valley has to offer.
The distillery room at Willie Smith’s will feature 5 artists:
Nicole Hutchins and her delicate wildflower oil paintings, Carson Andreas transforms reclaimed textiles into bold, contemporary bags and wearables, Het Oost a contemporary fibre artist with small scale macrame pieces to large mixed fibre weavings, Renae Grundy who works across pen and ink, acrylic painting and mixed media, Anna Arden-Wong a painter of Tasmanian landscapes and Libby Scott a fibre artist capturing beautiful colour and botanical prints on natural fibre cloth.
Willie Smiths Apple Shed is located at 2064 Huon Highway Grove and will be open from 10am to 4pm daily – start your creative journey with a morning coffee or finish your day relaxing with an organic cider!
Balfour House Artist Hub
Experience the art of hand-made being created right before your eyes at The Artisan’s Hand, the working studios of Balfour House. Located in the middle of the historic township of Cygnet the Artisan’s Hand showcases artists and their work in studios within the house.
The studios are truly working spaces as the artisans are designing and making pieces every day, demonstrating their skills, their unique tools and their knowledge of trade and craft. As you meet the artisans, you are encouraged to ask questions, explore their work and get up close with the process as unique techniques and fine workmanship are on show.
There will be 6 artists and makers at Balfour House during the Art Trial.
Emily Duggan showcases curvaceous, intertwining jewellery designs and delicate details creating her jewellery using age-old hand skills fabricating every element from scratch.
Emma Coombes a photographic artist whose work draws on mythology, folklore, and the natural world to create atmospheric narratives with storybook charm.
Lachlan Maclennan whose lifelong love of timber and music converge in beautifully crafted musical instruments.
Peter Rhodes is a furniture maker who uses timber from the Huon Valley to design and make contemporary furniture one piece at a time with traditional hand tools and techniques.
Deborah Wace is a botanical artist, fabric / wallpaper designer, and professional printmaker.
Carol Russell is a contemporary woodcarver who carves small naive sculptures influenced by the world around her showcasing an exhibition of her latest works.
Balfour House is located at 22 Mary Street Cygnet open 10am to 4pm.
The old apple shed Artist Hub
In the Huon Valley, an old apple packing shed has been transformed into a place of colour, imagination and creative connection.
Enjoy the scenic drive through Lucaston with it’s tree lined country roads to arrive at the Artist Hub in Studio 359.
Heather Crisp, Kerri Jacobson, and Catherine Morris work from the spacious repurposed old apple shed to create a variety of works for you to explore.
Studio 359 is Heather’s vibrant working space, a place where she paints alongside fellow artists, shares ideas and techniques, and celebrates the simple joy of making.
Heather’s acrylic painting works are quirky, detailed, humorous at times, rich with pattern and texture. She paints what she loves and she loves what she paints.
Kerri, an abstract acrylic painter, works intuitively, melding colour, line and form to construct a visual that resonates with her and hopefully the viewer. Her painting brings an abundance of joy.
As an emerging artist, Catherine takes inspiration from her love of bushwalking and the wonderful scenery and atmosphere offered by her home in Tasmania.
The old apple shed is located at 359 Bakers Creek Road, Lucaston and will be open from 10am to 4pm daily during the trail.

The Kiln Collective Artist Hub
The Kiln Collective is a celebration of the people and produce of Tasmania.
It’s a place to taste, learn, and connect with our region through the work of its passionate local makers.
It’s home to Bruny Island Cheese and Beer Co, Haddow & Dineen, Wild Mother Tasmania, and Henskens Rankin of Tasmania housed within a beautifully restored historical building.
The Artist Hub at The Kiln Collective will have a diverse range of artists from sculptors to textile artists.
Sculptor Brian Robins works with salvaged Huon Pine from the Huon River and the West Coast, giving new life to wood hundreds of years old.
Anusuya Willis creates abstract impressionist works capturing intimate moments of light in forests, marine environments, and still life through charcoal, pencil, and oil.
Bron Handscombe’s practice moves across ceramics, eco dyeing wood, textiles, paper, spinning and printmaking – all slow practices guided by curiosity, sustainability and a deep collection to place.
Nicola Oliver is a multidisciplinary Tasmanian artist exploring transformation, texture, light and storytelling through textiles, wood, photography and experimental mixed-media processes.
The Kiln Collective is located at 2 Louisa Street Ranelagh open 10am to 4pm daily during the Art Trail.
Creative Flow Defines Joyleene Abrey Across Fibre, Art and Tasmania
Creative inspiration comes alive as Joyleene Abrey transforms Tasmania’s textures, colours, and weaving into distinctive contemporary fibre art.
About the Huon Valley Studio Art Trail
With over 60 artists and makers involved in this year’s Huon Valley Art Trail, there will be the opportunity to explore oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, pastels and drawing, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and natural fabric dying, jewellery and metal craft, furniture and woodwork, spoon and contemporary wood carving, glass, instrument making, photography, printmaking, mixed media and more.
There are wall hung pictures from postcard to wall sized, floor mounted sculptures as big as a person to animal carvings you could fit in the palm of your hand, wearable fabric items, botanical print wallpaper, tiny jewellery pieces, rocking chairs to sit in and mandolins to play – the range is truly enormous!
Whether you love traditional or contemporary – it’s an experience not to be missed! Huon Valley Studio Art Trail is held from the 23rd to 25th October 10am to 4pm daily.
