Huon Valley Art Trail Immersion

The Huon Valley Studio Art Trail is one of Tasmania’s most anticipated annual arts events and blends a creative journey with the spectacular scenery of Southern Tasmania.

Over 3 days in October, more than 60 artists and makers open their doors, offering a rare opportunity to step inside private studios and hidden workshops granting exclusive behind-the-scene access to meet the artists and makers, ask questions about creative processes, attend live demonstrations and watch artisans transform raw materials into art.

The event runs from the 23rd to 25th October, 10am to 4pm daily, across the Huon Valley and Far South.

All About the Huon Valley Art Trails

Take a creative journey from the 23rd to the 25th of October through the Huon Valley and Far South to meet more than 60 extraordinary artists and makers in their personal studios and working Artist Hubs.

This immersive trail offers a rare glimpse into the creative process.

Step inside private studios and hidden workshops granting exclusive behind-the-scene access to meet the artists and makers.

Chat about tools and techniques, watch live demonstrations, ask questions and discover the inspiration and passion driving each creator.

Showcasing Diverse Creativity

The Studios and Artist Hubs will showcase everything from oil and acrylic painting, pastels, watercolours and drawings, through to ceramics, jewellery, metal craft, instrument making, furniture, spoon and contemporary wood carving, sculpture, photography, textiles and natural fabric dying – the range goes on.

Self Drive Creative Adventure

Stretching over 150 kilometres, the self-drive trail winds through the stunning landscapes of the Huon Valley and Far South from pristine beaches and quaint country roads to rolling hills filled with green orchards and the tranquil Huon River.

Food and Wine Exploration

Between studio visits indulge in cool climate wines, organic cider and exceptional farm-to-table dining at local bakeries and cafes – a feast for the senses!

Join in on the fun with our opening night event – Music & Makers!

Chat with local makers and indulge those taste buds with a curated lineup of our favourite food trucks.

Behind the Scenes Access

The Huon Valley Studio Art Trail is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to get behind the doors of the creative south and explore rarely seen parts of the beautiful Huon Valley.

The art lovers, the collectors, the creatives and the weekend explorers will all find something special in this anticipated annual event.

Step Inside & Explore

Not only will you be able to step into artists and makers’ creative spaces, experience the process in action and gain access to unique pieces, but you’ll traverse the length of the Huon Valley on the journey.

Meander along the river, travel through rich orchard country and have the chance to taste some of the best food the far south has to offer.

Over 60 artists from Dover to Cygnet and all points between are opening their studios and coming together in vibrant Artist Hubs to offer you an authentic, work-in-progress experience. 10am to 4pm daily from the 23rd to 25th October.

Art Trails Tasmania: An Artist Led Project

One of the most important features of Art Trails Tasmania is being able to introduce you to a wonderful community of Tasmanian artists, their workshops, exhibitions, creative small businesses, art retreats, events and their stories.

Over 60 Local Artists & Makers

The Huon Valley Studio Art Trail features over 60 local artists and makers throwing open their studio doors and gathering in vibrant Artist Hubs and we have many tools to guide you though the Trail.

In addition to an interactive digital map of the trail, this year, for the first time, there will be a published schedule of live demonstrations, held in the artists and makers studios, that will help you plan the best path through the valley.

Live Demonstrations

There will be live demonstrations of skills and specialised techniques for everything from ceramics, textiles, wood bending, spoon carving, weaving, alcohol ink art and more.

The event showcases everything from oil and acrylic painting, pastels, watercolours and drawings, through to ceramics, jewellery, metal craft, instrument making, furniture, spoon and contemporary wood carving, sculpture, photography, textiles and natural fabric dying – the range goes on.

The Huon Valley Studio Art Trail runs from the 23rd to 25th October 10am to 4pm daily.

Explore Different mediums

With over 60 artists and makers involved in this year’s Huon Valley Art Trail, there will be the opportunity to explore oil, acrylic and watercolour painting, pastels and drawing, ceramics, sculpture, textiles and natural fabric dying, jewellery and metal craft, furniture and woodwork, spoon and contemporary wood carving, glass, instrument making, photography, printmaking, mixed media and more.

There are wall hung pictures from postcard to wall sized, floor mounted sculptures as big as a person to animal carvings you could fit in the palm of your hand, wearable fabric items, botanical print wallpaper, tiny jewellery pieces, rocking chairs to sit in and mandolins to play – the range is truly enormous!

Whether you love traditional or contemporary – it’s an experience not to be missed! Huon Valley Studio Art Trail is held from the 23rd to 25th October 10am to 4pm daily.
