It’s Time to Be Part of the NETAC Festival
The North East Tasmania Art and Craft Festival Theme: “Something Old, Something New” 2024 is a special birthday for the NETAC Festival we have reached 50 years of running the event.
So it’s celebrations all round.
Our theme is all about those celebrations.
Something Old references our Golden Anniversary and Something New is the change of timing for the event.
We have moved from a cold winter festival to a bright and colourful Spring one.

50 Years of The NETAC Festival
Beginning in 1973 Scottsdale hosted a NETAC Festival over the June long weekend.
For the first 30 years the Scottsdale Mechanics’ Hall was where the exhibition was located.
In 2021, the James Scott Decorative Arts Society Committee stepped in and now run the festival.
The exhibition is a celebration of fine art and craft and the JSDAS committee welcomes works from past and new exhibitors to take advantage of the benefits the exhibition offers.

Being Part of the Festival
This is a State-wide event and over the past 50 years we have had 6,000 entries.
This festival is an annual event which runs from 13 – 15 September 2024.
As it is a statewide festival collection of artwork is done by delivery to depots around the state.
The Theme
The theme gives reference to us celebrating our Golden Anniversary (something old) and the Festival’s move to Spring (something new).
So, how to interpret the “Something Old, Something New” theme? Think as broadly as like, look back 50 years, what inspired you, or look at how the world, it’s people and environment has evolved.
Let your imagination soar!
Variety of Mediums Welcomed
As in previous years, we are keen to see entries which include mixed medium artwork. From oil, acrylic, watercolour, charcoal, pastels, chalk, graphite to newer forms of mixed mediums being employed, paint, cloth, paper, wood and found objects.

Artist Profile Stories
I want there to be more arts and crafts in our world, in our communities and in our own lives. Hopefully you’ve found this blog post inspiring and interesting.
So I’m creating, with your help, Art Trails Tasmania, allowing all of us who feel this love to create more of it.
The Art Trails Tasmania Blog
And the Art Trails Tasmania blog is a key part of making this happen, telling the stories of members. It’s about what they have happening with workshops and classes, exhibitions, open studio trails, where to find their outlets, markets, fairs and festivals so you can shop their creations as well as their art and craft retreats.
Also being shared are the supporters of our artists, the galleries, shops, cafes, art societies and groups, places to stay and artist in residencies.
