Drifted Matter by Emma Magnusson-Reid Exhibition
Drifted Matter’ by Emma Magnusson-Reid features a collection of works on paper that have been developed over several years in response to the immediate surrounds of the artist’s current and relatively new home in Beechford, on the North-East coast of lutruwita/ Tasmania.
This small, atmospheric coastal community is intimately situated within the Five Mile Bluff Conservation Area, where the Curries River merges into the Bass Straight.
Consisting of various printmaking and drawing methodologies, the imagery explored in their work acts as a study of place — embracing the surrounding waters, the night sky and the biological matter that exists within it.
The examined elements emote their own narratives of migration, nostalgia and purpose, consisting of what has become an interwoven entanglement of endemic and introduced plant species.

Thriving with bold colours, mark-making, creatively challenging herself artist Julie McDonald is coming into her own as she honours her muse.
Ephemeral Fields for Safe Keeping by Amy Bartlett
‘Ephemeral fields for safe keeping’ by Amy Bartlett is an exhibition that captures the essence of belonging and relationships to our roots, loved ones, friends, and society.
With each brush stroke or stitch, the artworks create a connection between the viewer and the artist’s own history, which serves as the patchwork of their identity.
With their commitment to preserving memories, the tapestry of colours, textures and shapes honour their ancestors and tell stories of their lived experiences.
Themes include nostalgia, loving relationships, loss and grief, domestic violence, and bonds to community.
Using visual storytelling and flowers as a tool, they invite audiences to explore their senses to reflect upon their own notions of home.

2025 Kinimathatakinta Art Prize
The Kinimathatakinta/George Town Art Prize is an annual event hosted at the Jim Mooney Gallery and managed by the George Town Council.
The goal of this prize is to highlight and celebrate the robust and evolving art scene within the municipality.
It encourages artists to deeply engage with their environment, encouraging a richer appreciation and understanding of place and community.
The prize showcases artworks that resonate with the essence of Kinimathatakinta/George Town, highlighting its landscapes, waterways, coastline, townships, and the distinctive lifestyles of its inhabitants.
By promoting an intimate engagement with our surroundings, the prize aims to enhance a broader understanding and appreciation of the region.
It encourages the creation of artworks that depict and interpret our culture, challenges, and beauty.
This platform is dedicated to celebrating the creativity and innovation of artists, introducing new perspectives and voices that enrich the local cultural dialogue.
This title of this prize is in palawa kani, the language of Tasmanian Aborigines.
An Exhibition of Local Tasmanian Artists
This year’s art prize celebrates an unapologetically local cohort—artists who live here, hail from here, or retreat to their weathered beach shacks for weekends of salty air and creative reflection.
