Send in Your Workshop Ideas
I’m delighted to be sharing this first Members’ workshop call out with you!
As I’m getting closer to setting up the Art Trails Tasmania workshop space it is time to open up applications for running workshops as I prepare for an entire season of creativity!
These Art Trails Tasmania Workshops will be strongly promoted across existing channels, including the “Crafting Your Own Creative Tasmanian Holiday Guide”, the Community Newsletter, website and blog, Facebook and Instagram and more via a focused marketing strategy and series of marketing campaigns.
Flourishing with Workshops
Core goals of these workshops include creating more opportunities for creativity to be explored, members to be able to earn more money from their creative skills, bring visitors from interstate and internationally to Tasmania for an inspiring holiday experience, and inject more money into our regional communities.
While I have scoped out workshop ideas over the last few years, I’m also excited to be sharing the space with members.
From the Community Newsletter subscribers and enquiry emails from others I’ve learnt quite a bit about what sort of workshops people are interested and, especially, the level of information sought and sort of lead times needed when folk are planning their trips to Tasmania. So my intention is to set up a six to twelve month calendar of workshops.
To do this, I need to get an idea of what sort of workshops members want to potentially lead.
How to Flourish Financially and Creatively with Markets and Fairs Part 1
In Part 1 of our series we look at how markets and fairs can be a great way to bring in money and grow creatively.
What is the timing and location for the workshops?
I have signed contracts for selling my late mum’s home (!!!). So once that is settled I will be able to properly get into property search mode and make an offer.
During the timeframe of me arriving back to Tasmania, moving into my new place and setting up the workshop space, I am intending on running workshops in other locations in Tasmania.
At this stage, my best estimates are for a Spring series of workshops.
My own property buying budget means that I will not be buying close to Hobart or Launceston, I will be further out. I’m looking for a property where I can relatively easily get set up for running the workshops as well as setting up my new home in a separate space.
The workshop space will be comfortable, well lit and welcoming.
I am not looking at doing short term accommodation as that would have a very good chance of doing my head in! And it is really important to me to add value to my new local community, especially as workshops are a form of arts tourism.
I want the local small businesses to benefit from what I’m doing, so neighbouring accommodation places, cafes and restaurants, galleries and shops etc all benefit too.
For money to work it has to move around, especially in our regional communities with small businesses.
Will the Workshop Space be rented out to others?
At this initial stage I’m planning on the space being dedicated to Art Trails Tasmania workshops that are led by either myself or a member.
I am most happy to consider other options in later stages.
Discounts for Members
All levels of membership will receive a members’ discount for attending workshops.
Who Is Eligible for the Workshop Call Out?
This is for Artist Profile and Artist Ensemble level members to submit an expression of interest to lead workshops in the Art Trails Tasmania workshop space.
Overview of the Workshop Call Out Process
1. Login to send in your ideas for running workshops with Art Trails Tasmania.
This will include details around:
- The type/s of workshops – what the workshop is about.
- Who the audience is for the workshop.
- Outline of what the participants will gain from the workshop.
- The length of time for the workshop.
- The types of mediums used in the workshop.
- What sort of materials and equipment is needed for the workshop.
- Is this a workshop that you’re run before or a new idea?
- Suggested number of participants – minimums and maximums.
- How you would promote the workshop yourself.
- The dates you’d be available or prefer.
- Links to your website and/or socials.
- Do you have public liability? This is not a qualifying question.
2. The submissions will be reviewed over a few weeks.
3. Finalising the selection of workshops will then require greater detail about your workshop to properly develop the marketing materials for selling the seats.
Whereas the initial submission is quite a high level overview, this next stage is about having the details needed to appeal and attract paying participants.
When people are having to pay for travel and accommodation they need to feel excited as well as secure about the experience they are putting their money into.
Brief descriptions are off putting for many, whereas details often make people feel much more informed and that makes the spending decision much easier.
