Vintage French Watercolour Palette with Pastels and Colours Illustration

This delightful digital print of a vintage French illustration all about colour is of a painter’s palette with eight colours, five pastels crayons, four dishes of paint and 12 pans of pigments with a brush is captivating.

The four dishes are Laque carmine (red), Laque verte (green), Cobalt and Juane de Chrome (Yellow Chrome). While the 12 pan colours that are used to mix the colours on the palette are:

  1. Prussian Blue
  2. Chrome Yellow
  3. Saturn Red
  4. Cobalt
  5. New Gamboge
  6. Burnt Sienna
  7. Vermillon
  8. Sepia
  9. Indigo
  10. Venetian Red
  11. Emerald Green
  12. Madder Carmine

The eight colours on the palette are listed as:

  1. Sky Blue made from Prussian Blue and Cobalt
  2. Forest Green made from New Gamboge, Venetian Red and Indigo
  3. Violet made from Indigo and Madder Carmine
  4. Spring Green made from Indigo and New Gamboge

A note about translations, I’ve done my best with translating the 19th Century French colour names and terms as some, such as feuillage and laque don’t have a clear translation. But I hope that you too find this is interesting and intriguing!
