Ceramic artist Christie Lange invites you to her open studio as part of the Secret People, Secret Places Art Trail during the Bay of Fires Winter Arts Festival 2025.
Based in beautiful Binalong Bay, Christie’s studio will be open daily from 10 AM to 4 PM across the June long weekend, June 7–9.
Known for her intricate porcelain sculptures and mixed media works, Christie draws inspiration from the delicate ecosystems of Tasmania—mosses, fungi, lichens, and coastal textures.
Her work blends clay, embroidery, and glazes to explore themes of ecology, regeneration, and the quiet power of the natural world.
This is a rare opportunity to meet Christie in her creative space, gain insight into her artistic process, and purchase original ceramic works.

Daily Pottery Demonstrations
Adding to the experience, Christie will present live pottery wheel and handbuilding demonstrations each day at 11 AM and 2 PM—a unique opportunity to witness the transformation of raw clay into elegant, nature-inspired forms.

Christie Lange is a Tasmanian sculptor and ceramic artist based in Binalong Bay, on the northeast coast of Tasmania.
Her artistic practice explores themes of ecology, hybridity, adaptation, and cohabitation with the ‘more-than-human’ world .
Drawing inspiration from the intricate forms and functions of fungi, lichens, mosses, and other small organisms, Christie creates ceramic sculptures that reflect the delicate balance of nature.
Christie’s work is characterised by a deep connection to the natural environment, with each piece embodying a narrative of regeneration and renewal.
Through her art, she aims to nurture a deeper appreciation for the natural world, showcasing its intricate beauty through hybrid forms and imagined organisms that inspire reflection and restoration .

The Open Studio Trail Experience with Christie Lange
Step inside Christie Lange’s open studio this June long weekend to explore a stunning collection of her ceramic works.
Visitors can admire her porcelain sculptures featuring special effects glazes and layered surfaces inspired by Tasmania’s mosses, fungi, and coastal textures.
Her Bay of Fires collection, reflecting the region’s colours and forms, will also be on display.
For fans of functional ceramics, Christie offers an elegant range of bud vases, milk jugs, and latte cups, each handmade with care and attention to detail.
A special highlight is the launch of her “100 Mugs Collection”, a creative project showcasing 100 unique mugs, each with its own character.
Daily pottery wheel and hand building demonstrations at 11 AM and 2 PM provide visitors with a behind-the-scenes look at Christie’s process.
Guests can also learn about and book into her ceramics workshops, where they can enjoy hands-on experiences creating their own pieces in a supportive and inspiring setting.

About the Ceramist Artist
Christie Lange is a sculptor and ceramic artist who lives and works in Binalong Bay, Tasmania. Christie studied a Bachelor in Contemporary Art – Visual Arts at UTAS Inveresk and graduated with First Class Honours in 2020.
Christie won the Art Farm Birch’s Bay Small Sculpture Acquisitive Prize in 2019, has been a finalist in the Women’s Art Prize Tasmania in 2020, Art Farm Birch’s Bay Sculpture Prize 2020, 2021 & 2022, and the Boxed-In Sculpture Prize in 2021 where she was awarded the People’s Choice award.
Christie recently was awarded an Arts Tasmania Education Residency grant which she completed at Winnaleah District School, Tasmania.
Her practice embraces ecology, biodiversity, hybridity and the agency of the non-human. Bringing together material investigations with a mycelial imagination, refrains of the mycological, zoological and botanical are present in her hybrid inventions.
Highlighting the planets need for biodiversity, she tenderly examines redemption, restoration and renewal as her works in clay reveal nature’s infinitesimal expressions. Through her work, Christie hopes to nurture a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
