Something Creative Is Taking Shape at the Art Farm
I’ve been thinking about workshops for a long time.
In fact, I’ve been collecting ideas for arts and crafts workshops for a couple of years now — jotting things down, imagining projects, thinking about what I’d love to learn myself, and wondering what other creative people might enjoy exploring.
And now, finally, those ideas are starting to have a place to land.
I’m in the process of buying a little farm in North West Tasmania, which will become the new home of Art Trails Tasmania’s Art Farm.
And one of the things I’m most excited about is having a dedicated workshop space there.
I can picture it already: a creative space where we can gather together, try things, experiment with materials, learn new techniques and spend a few hours completely absorbed in making something.
It’s not quite ready yet.
Actually, the farm isn’t even officially mine yet!
I’m still waiting for a settlement date to be confirmed, so I don’t have a definite date for when the Art Farm workshops will begin.
But that doesn’t mean the planning has to wait.
I’ve been collecting workshop ideas for years
There are so many things I’d love to explore through the Art Farm workshops.
- Textile arts
- Mixed media
- Exploring watercolours
- Nature journaling
- Sketchbook practices
And plenty of other ideas that are still floating around in my head and written in my notebooks.
I’m particularly interested in workshops that give you the opportunity to slow down and explore a creative practice, rather than simply following a set of instructions to produce a particular thing.
I want there to be room to experiment.
To make mistakes.
To try something you’ve never tried before.
To discover that you’re actually quite good at something you didn’t think you could do.
And, of course, to have a lovely time doing it.
But I want to know what YOU’d like to do at Workshops
While I’ve got a growing list of ideas, gathering workshop supplies, I’m very aware that the best way to create a workshop program is not to sit in my studio and decide what everyone else should be interested in!
So I’d love to hear from you.
Is there a creative practice you’ve always wanted to try?
Something you’ve seen and thought, I’d love to learn how to do that?
Maybe it’s printmaking, drawing, ceramics, weaving, bookmaking, collage, botanical art, photography, creative writing — or something I’ve never even thought of.
I’d love to know.
The workshop waitlist is also a way for me to get a better sense of what you’re interested in, so I can shape the program around the people who are actually going to come along.
The Art Farm Workshops are part of something bigger
There’s an important distinction I want to make here.
The workshops I’ll be running at the Art Farm will be in addition to the workshops already being offered by Art Trails Tasmania members.
One of the things I love about Art Trails Tasmania is the incredible variety of creative people, studios and practices that are part of our community.
I’m not looking to replace that.
Quite the opposite.
I’m really looking forward to having Art Trails Tasmania members join me at the Art Farm to run inspiring workshops of their own.
I can imagine the Art Farm becoming another place where our creative community can come together — with different artists and makers bringing their own skills, ideas and perspectives into the workshop space.
That’s something I’m particularly excited about.
Creating an Eco Art Farm for Workshops and Retreats
An eco art farm vision grows from grief & gratitude, welcoming wildlife, artists & visitors while nurturing the land & creativity in this behind the scenes story.
And there may be workshops before the Art Farm is ready…
Because I’m currently in that slightly strange period of “I’m planning the workshops, but I don’t quite have the workshop space yet!”, I’m also considering running some workshops in alternative locations while everything at the Art Farm is coming together.
I don’t have all the details worked out yet, but it could mean we get to start making and experimenting together sooner, rather than waiting until every last thing at the farm is ready.
I’ll share more about this as the plans develop.

Because I don’t want to wait until everything is finished before I start talking to the people who might want to be part of it.

The farm isn’t settled yet.

But I’ve been dreaming up these workshops for years.
And now, slowly, they’re becoming real.
I can’t wait to see what we make together.
