Description

Due to popular demand, I’m making available a second sashiko stitching workshop for you, on Sunday 22nd November with a beautiful Blue Gum design.

Do you want to learn Sashiko stitching and don’t know where to start? This traditional Japanese stitching technique is gaining popularity because it is a delightful mindful slow stitch practice.

I was drawn to Sashiko while I was recovering from exhaustion with caring for my beloved mum and moving through grief after her passing. For me, it has been deeply restorative with the simple action of being present as I stitch something beautiful. It is a healing and nurturing practice.

I’ve been able to take my Sashiko stitching in a convenient pouch to art and craft groups, make and mend afternoons, visits with friends and family and on get-aways. The joy of sharing these projects with friends and family has brought light and joy into my day and I hope to share this with others.

My entry point with Sashiko has been through printed panel designs. I’m finding them a great entry point into a traditional craft that focuses on mindfulness, creativity and mending.

What also appeals to me with Sashiko stitching is how transferable the technique is to quilting, art embroidery, mending and reuse. It is a lovely introductory skill to develop for an intentional craft practice centred on sustainability and slow stitching.

Sashiko is also a craft that is ideally suited for those travelling or commuting as it requires only a few small tools – needle, thread, scissors and fabric.

In the workshop I’ll share with you:

  • Stitching techniques
  • My own lessons learnt
  • Design ideas for your finished work
  • Samples of my own finished and in progress Sashiko panels
  • A range of types of threads – from the traditional to the alternative
  • What to consider when buying Sashiko panels
  • A beautiful Australian Wildflower panel full of Blue Gum leaves, blossoms and nuts design printed in Japan and in wash away print

Explore Your Creativity with Sashiko

Share the joy of stitching with friends or family, or come alone and meet fellow craft lovers in a welcoming space. This workshop makes a delightful birthday, Christmas or TLC gift.

This Sashiko workshop is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced stitchers who want to try something fresh and new.

No prior stitching or sewing experience is needed as we get started on your own Australian Wildflower full of Blue Gum leaves, blossoms and nuts Sashiko panel.

You’ll get to stitch your own Sashiko panel and take it home with all the materials needed.
