Be Delighted by the “Animals” Exhibition
ANIMALS: from silly to serious is an exhibition with detailed illustrations by Hildegunn Hodne, featuring bugs and animals, as well as people who interact with the main animal characters.
The exhibition includes a large amount of quirky cartoons and life-like illustrations created in pencil, ink pen, colour pencils and water colours on paper.
The exhibition showcases original artwork used as basis for creating digital files, which is the end product for the majority of the artist’s illustration projects.

A new exhibition at Poatina Tree Art Gallery, Journey: Places of stillness and contemplation reveals Dorothy Knox’s atmospheric watercolours.
All About the Exhibition
ANIMALS exhibits original art work from illustration projects spanning the last six years, including illustrations for the following projects:
- The non-fiction popular science book ‘Spider Stories
- My Journey from Phobia to Fascination’ with text and illustrations by Hildegunn Hodne, published 2022 by ARDEN, an imprint of Australian Scholarly Publishing Ltd.
- Tea towel about whales with illustrations by Hildegunn Hodne and poem by Annie Leschen, for sale from 2022.
- Children’s books ‘Henry Tree Dog’ (completed 2026) and ‘Henry Sea Dog’ (ongoing project).
- Tea towel about antechinus with illustrations by Hildegunn Hodne and poem by Annie Leschen, for sale from November 2026.
Hildegunn Hodne, originally from Norway, migrated to Tasmania in 2020. She lives and works in Chudleigh, Northern Tasmania.
Her work is greatly inspired by the native and endemic animals of Tasmania.
An Exhibition to Delight
The exhibition is suitable for anyone who loves animals and bugs, both kids and adults.
The illustrations showcase the artist’s creative joy, and hopefully some of this joy will rub off on the audience.
Note that some of the illustrations of spiders are life-like and may be scary to anyone with a fear of spiders.
Meet Artist Hildegunn Hodne
Hildegunn Hodne is the featured artists of this event. Hildegunn is a published author and illustrator.
This will be her first solo exhibition, and her first exhibition in Tasmania.
The exhibition features illustrations created in pencil, ink pen, colour pencils and water colours on paper.
