The Launceston Art Society is delighted to share with you an inspiring calendar of workshops!
The workshops are from life drawing to oil painting to watercolour, from July to November 2026.
The workshops include, Oils and Seascape Waves with Steve Myers, Pam Lockwood-Watercolour Flowers, Long Pose Life Drawing Workshop with Manuela Pilz, and Composition, Figures and Cityscapes with Rod Gardner.

Stephen Myers Workshop: Oils and Seascape Waves
Join acclaimed oil painter Stephen Myers for a full-day workshop exploring light, motion and the energy of breaking waves.
Working on a large canvas, participants will learn how to structure a wave, capture translucent colour and paint moving water with confidence. All levels welcome.

Join acclaimed oil painter Stephen Myers for a full-day workshop focused on painting seascape waves in oils.
The workshop theme is “Light and motion: a study of the breaking wave.” Working on a large canvas, participants will explore how to build the structure of a wave, capture translucent colour, and express the energy and movement of water as it breaks.
This workshop is designed to be practical, encouraging and inspiring, with guidance that helps artists understand both the form and feeling of a wave.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn new oil painting techniques, develop their confidence, and spend a creative day in the company of other artists. All levels are welcome.

How Amanda Berryman Creates Healing Through Art and Nature
Amanda Berryman shares how intuitive painting, meditation and Tasmania’s natural rhythms bring joy, healing and deep presence to her art practice.
Peter Ellyard Crafts Living Art from Steel, Glass and Light
Peter Ellyard creates art where steel meets colour and sunlight, crafting lasting pieces influenced by Tasmania’s landscape and shifting skies.
Meet Steve Myers
This workshop will feature acclaimed oil painter Stephen Myers, who will lead participants through a full-day study of the breaking wave.
Stephen will share his approach to painting light, motion and water in oils, helping participants understand how to build the structure of a wave and capture the colour and energy of moving water.
The workshop is presented by Launceston Art Society and will be held at the RSL Studio in Launceston.
Workshop coordination is through Iryna, Launceston Art Society’s Workshop Coordinator.
The session offers participants the opportunity to learn directly from Stephen in a supportive, practical and inspiring studio setting.
Who’s the Workshop is For
This workshop is for artists and creative people who are interested in oil painting, seascapes, light, movement and the challenge of capturing water.
It is suitable for all levels, including those who are newer to oils as well as more experienced painters who would like to strengthen their approach to waves and coastal subjects.
Participants will gain practical skills in structuring a breaking wave, building translucent colour, and creating a sense of motion and energy in their painting.
The joy of the workshop will come from spending a full creative day with an experienced artist, learning new techniques in a welcoming studio environment, and leaving with greater confidence in painting expressive seascapes.
Workshop Supplies
Participants should bring their own oil painting materials.
As this is a full-day oil painting workshop working on a large canvas, attendees should ensure they have suitable oil paints, brushes, palette, mediums, cleaning materials, and a large canvas ready for the day.
Comfortable clothing suitable for painting is recommended, and an apron or old shirt may be useful.

Meet Pam Lockwood
Pam Lockwood is an experienced artist whose creative journey began early, inspired by watching her grandmother paint watercolours, particularly bird studies.
After studying art at school, Pam later returned to painting through oils before finding a strong connection with watercolour during a period of personal change.
She has undertaken extensive workshop training, completing more than twenty workshops with respected watercolour artist Tony Smibert, whom she considers a key mentor.
Other influences include John Lovett, and for botanical subjects, Nancy Tichborne.
Pam is a member of the Watercolour Society of Western Australia and has been involved with several art societies across WA.
She is currently a member of the Launceston Art Society and the North West Art Collective, and teaches watercolour landscape techniques from her home studio in Latrobe.
Her practice includes watercolour landscapes and botanicals, as well as large-scale acrylic abstracts.
Workshop Supplies
Participants should bring their own watercolour painting materials.
Useful items may include watercolour paints, brushes, palette, water containers, suitable watercolour paper, pencil, eraser, masking tape, paper towel or cloth, and any preferred sketching or painting tools.
As the workshop includes layered washes and salt techniques, attendees may also wish to bring salt if requested in the final materials list.
