Seeing how my work resonates with others, evokes emotions, or sparks conversations can be immensely rewarding.

Knowing that my art has touched someone can bring great joy.

Also, the process of continually learning and improving my skills can be very gratifying. Each piece of art is a step forward in my creative journey.

A Path to Creativity with a Present Made with Love

It was actually my partner Sue who led me to painting.

Sue painted a wave for me as a Christmas present. She had never painted before and given my love for the sea, Sue thought it would be a great gift.

I was so happy I went out the next day and purchased all the art supplies I could.

Buying Too Many Art Supplies and Taking Over the House

Not knowing anything about art or what I needed, I bought way too much.

I guess my art journey started there.

Sue does not paint anymore (she only did the one painting for me), and I took over the house with my supplies.

The Creativity Challenges of Learning

I love finding out new ways to paint and I really enjoy the challenges that come with learning new techniques.

Because I love to paint seascapes, I am never too far from inspiration, given the dynamic nature of the ocean.

The Power of Finding Solitude, Awe & Seascapes

I love to paint Tasmanian seascapes.

I am drawn to the unique beauty and power of the ocean, particularly the west coast of Tasmania.

I often find myself in complete solitude at many Tasmanian beaches bringing a sense of awe and excitement to want to paint the scene in front of me

A Love for Oils and Gouache

I primarily use oils and gouache. Oils are fantastic for their rich, vibrant colours and the ability to blend seamlessly, allowing for intricate details and depth in my work.

I love the flexibility they offer, as I can work on a piece over several days, making adjustments and adding layers to achieve the desired effect.

Gouache, on the other hand, provides a different kind of joy. Its opaque quality and quick drying time make it perfect for creating bold, expressive pieces with a matte finish.

I often use gouache for more spontaneous, experimental works where I can play with color and texture.

Capturing the Beauty and Mystery of the Ocean

Through my art, I aim to capture the beauty and mystery of the ocean.

The vast expanse of water, with its ever-changing moods.

My seascapes are a celebration of the ocean’s majesty and a reminder of our deep connection to nature.

I want viewers to feel both the awe and the tranquility that the ocean inspires, encouraging them to appreciate and protect this vital part of our planet.

I am a self-taught emerging artist with a passion for painting seascapes.

I have surfed and lived by the ocean my whole life and I am inspired by the natural beauty and ruggedness of the West Coast of Tasmania, Australia.

My art reflects the dynamic relationship between the remoteness and solitude one feels when visiting this region.
