Here you’ll find the Art Trails Tasmania current members who are artists from across the state. Many creative folk have talents across various mediums because it gives them joy (it never makes sense to try to stuff someone into a narrow pigeon hole, no one fits them!).

Tasmanian Craft Fair
The Tasmanian Craft Fair is the largest display, sale and working demonstration of all types of crafts in the Southern Hemisphere, held annually on the Northern Tasmania November long weekend in the picturesque town of Deloraine.

My arts practice centres primarily on sculpture, it draws heavily upon my pakana cultural connections to Country and the traditional practices that spiritually connect me to my artwork. These connections began early when my great grandfather took me into the bush and swamps of the East coast of Flinders Island to show me traditional hunting and crafting techniques.
This background is combined with the stoicism derived from the journey of my ancestors and people who have continued to practice the oldest living culture from precolonial to current times despite the many horrific challenges they faced on that pathway not excluding war, assimilation and cultural theft. An important aspect of the future pathway within my work is the effects of climate change on traditional Tasmanian Aboriginal resources and recognising how these effects are being felt not only by the pakana and palawa people themselves but Sky, Land and Sea Country.
I have help support the creation of a handful of films and documentaries, further to this I have enjoyed guiding and exploring informed talks, fire pit yarns and sharing knowledge walks through the Cataract Gorge in Launceston or on the beaches of Flinders Island, each presentation focused in part on highlighting the immediacy of healing and caring for Sea Country.

Rita Summers is a Canadian-born eco-artist living and working in the island state of Tasmania. She found her true calling after having an illness in 2002 and opened her gallery/studio exactly one year later to the day.
She discovered eco-printing and dyeing in 2008. Rita has always loved textiles and stitching and part of her mission is to raise awareness of them as a valid art form.
Her underlying philosophy is to create products and source materials as ethically as she can. finding and reinventing vintage and preloved clothing, fabrics, and other materials with natural dyes, paints made from the earth and deconstruction techniques.
Materials for natural printing and colour are mostly foraged from her and husband Ian’s own property, where she can manage the trees and plants respectfully. Qualifications: Bachelor of Education (Art Major, distinction) Diploma of Art Craft Design (Textiles)

Below is a map to help orientate yourself with the regions. Do note that this map has some creative license to it rather than being a very specific, professional cartographers creation. Do refer to the Tasmanian Government Official touring map of Tasmania ($5, available online, in Service Tasmania shops and onboard the Spirit of Tasmania) for accurate details. It even has roads and rivers marked on it!
If you’re planning a road trip arts holiday be sure to get hold of a good old fashion printed map of the state. Do not trust Google maps or the navigation maps beyond the city and suburbs as they’re renowned for taking people along unsafe narrow dirt tracks with little opportunity for chucking u- turns (true for all regional, rural and remote areas in Australia). And besides, folding out a map, having an explore is way more fun!

What’s On and Happening with Art Trails Tasmania Members
Art Trails Tasmania is a membership based program that is all about empowering, enabling, celebrating and sharing the amazing artists, makers, writers, composers, designers, performers, creators, artisans and crafters across this beloved state.
After a lot of careful consideration, asking and listening to our audience on the socials in the prelude to the launch of this site, the decision on how this artist led project would be funded became abundantly clear: memberships.
Initial thoughts included having Google ads but no one, including me, really liked that idea. Other optoins included selling ebooks and courses and going after grants and sponsorships.
While grants and sponsorships might still be on the table they are unreliable in many ways – time consuming to apply for and highly competitive.
While the ebooks, guides and programs fit much better as they are about sharing skills, inspiration and connections. So you’ll find a growing library of them in the Resources area with the full collection available in the members area.
As for membership, it just made the most sense. It creates a family and shares the collective and individual stories.
