Paint in Location with this Weekend Oil Painting Workshop

Join artist Katrina Pullin for a weekend workshop of plein air oil painting around beautiful Lake Dulverton in Oatlands, Tasmania on the 5th and 6th of September 2026.

All materials and equipment included, Michael Harding paints provided and a primed linen canvas board supplied for each participant to take home as a finished work of art.

A Workshop to Explore Your Creativity

The weekend will begin with a meet and greet at 9am at Oatlands Gallery 102, before walking across the road to historic Carrington Mill and then onto Lake Dulverton.

Here take inspiration from the surrounding landscape and to paint outdoors.

Katrina will begin with a demonstration before everyone sets up and begins their own painting adventure.

There will be regular breaks and further demonstrations throughout each session.

The group will return to Oatlands Gallery 102 at approximately 12.30pm, with the session concluding at 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday. The workshops will be very relaxed, fun and supportive.

Who the Workshop is For

Everyone who loves art and being creative is welcome, from beginners to experienced.

The workshop has been designed so that you can experience Plein Air Oil Painting without the expense of buying all your own equipment and materials needed.

If you have existing equipment or a preferred canvas, you are more than welcome to bring this.

On our “Art Journey of Discovery” it is amazing how many different interpretations and perspectives come from the one scene or subject. It is an absolute delight to all to watch this transpire.

The Experience of Painting Outside

We will be painting En Plein Air (French)/Plein Air (American). Meaning painting in the open air, on site.

Painting this way adds so much more to the experience as most of your senses are engaged, the depth of field is unlimited, fresh air and at times unexpected wildlife which is mostly thrilling.

Being able to immerse yourself in the environment gives great peace to your soul. Being able to smell the location, feel the wind, sun, rain, ground, hear all the foliage moving in the wind, birds and animals connects you to where you are.

The changing weather and light is a constant artist challenge but so rewarding. This enhances your memories of the day and is transpose into your art.

Sharing Experience and Passion

Katrina Pullin was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is now creating art in Tasmania.

With more than 20 years of experience as an artist, Katrina is an experienced en plein air oil painter and multidisciplinary artist with a deep appreciation for the beauty and changing character of the natural world.

Oil painting is her primary medium, allowing her to explore the shifting qualities of light, colour and atmosphere while working directly from the landscape.

Creative Curiosity

Her creative practice also extends into printmaking, sculpture and a variety of other mediums, reflecting her curiosity and love of exploring different ways of making art.

Katrina is currently completing her Diploma of Visual Arts at RMIT in Melbourne, which she will finish later this year.

She has found the experience particularly inspiring, surrounded by supportive tutors, mentors and fellow student artists.

Once she completes her diploma, Katrina’s focus will turn to Oatlands Gallery 102 and her vision for creating a creative, inspiring and supportive community for artists.

Through exhibitions, workshops and opportunities for artists to share their work, she hopes the gallery will become a place where artists can connect, learn and grow.
