Make this summer creative with a season of clay workshops led by ceramist artist Christie Lange in her welcoming Binalong Bay studio. Come with friends, family or enjoy some creative time by yourself.
Inspired by Tasmania’s marine life, create a ceramic green turtle, whale shark wall sculpture, detailed coral sculpture or coastal-inspired whale tail. With Christie’s personal guidance, explore clay, experiment with textures and shapes, and learn new techniques.
Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced maker, these workshops offer a chance to slow down, discover your creativity and make something uniquely yours. Materials, tools and firings are provided, so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
Green Turtle Sculpture Workshop: A Two-Part Ceramic Sculpture Experience
Make your own ceramic sea turtle with artist Christie Lange in her welcoming Binalong Bay studio.
Across two small-group sessions, shape a sculptural body, carve shell patterns and add colour. Enjoy individual guidance and the pleasure of making a marine-inspired artwork of your own.
Workshop Details
Create a freestanding ceramic Green Turtle sculpture, approximately 20–25cm long, at Christie Lange Ceramics, 165 Main Road, Binalong Bay.
On Sunday 1 November 2026, 10am–2pm, Christie will guide you through building a strong hollow form, shaping flippers and developing shell patterns and surface textures.
With just five participants, there is time for individual support as your turtle takes shape.
After drying and bisque firing, return on Saturday 28 November, 10am–12pm, to explore colour and paint details with underglazes.
Christie will then apply a transparent glaze and complete the final firing.
The $445 fee includes both sessions, clay, tools, decorating materials, kiln firings, tuition and refreshments.
A grazing platter can be ordered separately. Payment plans are available in two instalments.
Both sessions are required; contact Christie if you cannot attend the decorating session. Sculptures will be ready approximately 6–8 weeks after decorating.

Ideal for Beginners and Intermediate Makers
This workshop welcomes beginners and intermediate makers aged 12 and over.
It is ideal for ocean lovers, curious creatives and anyone who would enjoy spending time making something with their hands.
Learn how to build a hollow ceramic sculpture, join its parts securely and develop texture and pattern. Returning to decorate your fired turtle gives you the chance to see how clay changes through the ceramic process and choose colours that make the work your own.
There is pleasure in the small discoveries: a flipper finding its curve, a shell pattern emerging beneath a tool, or a painted detail bringing your turtle to life.
With only five people in the group, you can ask questions, share ideas and receive personal encouragement. Come alone or book with someone you enjoy spending time with. You will create your own sculpture and gain skills and confidence to carry into future making.
